Translation with AI

The two masters students have finished their thesis work with us, they presented their results on our demo session 16/5 and to their university 23/5. Their conclusion is that for translation Swedish to English GPT-4 gives superior results compared to Google translate or Azure, and that we need to include our own dictionaries for specialized technical words for good results. Such dictionaries must be created manually by letting product managers correct automati translations and then save the corresponding words. However, the quality of the original text must also be of good quality for a good result, and that is not always the case. For this reason this initiaive also connects closely to DD-198.

The next step will be to build on the result of the thesis and create better dictionaries for more product areas, and for more languages.

Background

As a Nordic-centered company Ahlsell we need to translate many texts between swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish and English. WIth ChatGPT automatic translation of high quality, much better than Google translate, is readily available, We would like to establish easy-to-use translation tools for everyday use, as well as for automation, that leverages AI -capabilities and respects a common style and volabulary throughout Ahlsell.

Why is it important:

Translation is already done in many places, many tools are used, some more manual than others. We can save a lot in efficiency, quality and consistency by having a common set of AI-aided tools for this.
