Description
To increase the quality and customer satisfaction and at the same time increase productivity in the DC´s goods recieveing, picking and warehouse maintainance processes, we should aim to increase the data capture of and logic in using sku package structures.
Problems today:
Package data is not unified and standardized resulting in an arbritrary registry and usage.
Package data cannot be used for stock taking, volume calculations, freight cost calculations etc
Missing alignment between purchase, warehousing and sales data creates dissatisfactory in the customer end when a “belief” in ordering a full pack is resulting in loose pieces being shipped.
Solutions:
Establish a unified package structure according to GS1 standards.
Create registry and maintainance of package structure and affiliated master data
Create framework to define which system and functions needs which package types and definition of mapping
Establish processes to secure that requirments of this data is requested in supplier agrements and processes for vetting and correction
Identify which functions and processes that are improved and/or affected by new structure, such as sales and warehousing (use GTIN on package level to register sold quantity in stores, calculate volume in shipping based on package volume, not piece volume * quantity etc
